It’s the blistering summer of 1988 and private detective Frankie is sipping a Bacardi and coke at the Koralle bar. The next moment, he’s in the middle of an absurd new case. A top executive at the national train operator is being extorted by an anonymous caller. The only clue to the caller’s identity is that the disco they called from was playing “White Heat” by Madonna. Frankie gets into his car and begins his investigation, first in Munich, then in its vicinity before ending up on a trek across West Germany. He soon realises that he is pawn in a sinister game with no apparent logic.

«1000 German Discos is a great pop music novel with a dimension that explores the geography and people of a nation while toying with the clichés of hard-boiled crime fiction ... This text can dance.» (Der Tagesspiegel)

«A homage to the monotony of the provinces» (Süddeutsche Zeitung) for which Michel Decar was awarded the 2019 Bayern2-Wortspiele-Preis.
