A new AI dating technology promises the «perfect match». With its help, Mia has created a doppelganger from all the data ever collected about her: Maia. She hopes Maia will offer her understanding, eternal happiness and, today, on the day of Mia's grandmother's funeral, emotional support. But Maia is slow in coming. Mia does not want to face her family alone. So she stays in the car, much to the growing frustration of her mother Marion. When Maia finally shows up, Mia is stunned: instead of standing by her side, her doppelganger charms Mia's parents. She encourages Marion, who as future mayor wants to protect her community from external crises, in her political ambitions and Mia's father Christian in his hatred of the system, acting as a couples therapist and echo chamber, all supposedly for Mia's own good. While Grandpa steadfastly digs a bunker in the garden, the boundaries between care and calculation, right and wrong, fact and opinion blur in the family's kitchen. What is Maia's goal as an algorithm-driven entity that seems to be driving the family to escalation, yet makes everyone feel they are right? And how can understanding succeed in a world that we increasingly perceive through digital constructs?
