Silvio visits Hassan in prison where Hassan is being held pending deportation. Having arrived illegally from Libya, Hassan must leave Switzerland, where he had hoped for a better life – one of many people who have no right to stay and whom Silvio supports on a voluntary basis. Silvio is now studying marine biology and researching the secrets of the ocean. At the same time, he repeatedly delves into his own past and questions the motives behind his actions. Does he care so intensely about Hassan because he went to school with Bojan as a teenager whose family was also forced to leave the country? Is Silvio's commitment genuine, or is he merely compensating for feelings of guilt in the face of his own Western European privileges?

Private memories and political decisions interweave in Wir schaffen das / aus to form a poetic reflection on the right course of action in a system that consists of bureaucratic harshness, steel gates and concrete walls, and in doing so repeatedly loses sight of humanitarian principles.
