The centre of the world is an amusement park, with an anthem and parades, mascots, candyfloss and a giant roller coaster. The centre is surrounded by the periphery, and heavily guarded walls separate the two areas. Nevertheless, everyone is naturally drawn to the centre, driven by a longing for pleasure and light-heartedness, including Sarah Kilter's nameless heroine «She», who lives in precarious conditions on the edge. From there, her father had set off every day, like so many other fathers, to work on the other side of the wall – until one day he did not return. Now «She» sets off, and because she speaks the language of the centre, she quickly finds a reasonably well-paid job in border security. Without complaint, she works overtime, goes the «extra mile» and finally achieves her goal: she becomes the park's mascot, Flux. But despite all her hard work, the promise of happiness does not materialise. And when loud protests erupt during a highly official visit by the periphery’s president to the centre’s president, «She» gets to know the true face of the beautiful, colourful, glittering world.
Sometimes choral, sometimes told entirely from «She’s» point of view, sometimes in rapid dialogue, Mysteryland tells an almost fairy-tale-like story of rise to prominence that repeatedly lands harshly in social reality and shows, among other things, that prosperity inevitably comes with a price tag.
