This text is a fast-paced time travel through the best years of the Federal Republic of Germany. We are spared nothing, most of which we had repressed a long time ago. Like when clever Kohl pulled a fast one on overachiever Schmidt in their duel for the chancellor’s office, or when the Postmaster General still delivered bad news in person, and when Helmut’s three heirs eventually fought over his estate, split the empire, and sent the old king packing. But our memories come back quickly. This is exactly how it felt under the reign of the last head of government whose understanding of the world, of Europe, and of himself was still unbroken. In addition to top politicians of Bonn’s heydays, we meet his French wife Hannelore, Kohl’s aristocratic Mother, and the best cleaning lady in Bonn (extremely over-qualified and clear-sighted). You’d have to be a party pooper to want to set the facts straight. Everybody else will actually recognize the mechanisms of patriarchic democracy, fatherly leadership with no ifs and buts – they will see how things really were in the good old FRG.

World premiere
18.12.2013 Theater Bonn (Director: Markus Heinzelmann)
