Anne Habermehl was born in 1981 in Heilbronn; from 2004 until 2008, she studied stage writing at the Universität der Künste (University of Arts) in Berlin. Letztes Territorium (Last Territory) earned her an invitation to the Dramatists' Workshop at the Berliner Theatertreffen (Berlin Theater Days), where she received a Commission. For the season 2008/2009, she held a scholarship from the Autorenlabor (Writers' Lab) at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, and in 2009 she participated in the workshop Obrador d'estiu run by Simon Stephens at Sala Beckett, Barcelona.
In 2011 her play Narbengelände which she also directed herself was invited to the Festival Autorentheatertage (Authors' Festival) at Deutsches Theater Berlin.
In the season 2013/2014 she was writer-in-residence at Schauspielhaus Vienna, and in summer 2014 she had a scholarship at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. 2019 she received a degree in directing from the prestigious Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Baden-Württemberg.
