In this satire, which premiered shortly after June 17, 1953, Kipphardt pointedly attacks bureaucratism and career-mindedness in the cultural apparatus, which he sees as a stand-in for society-wide opportunism and conformism. The lovable, but clumsy Faerber, dramaturg at a municipal theater, hastily fires an author, whose talent he only recognizes after it is too late. Nervously, Faerber begins searching for him, which leads to tumultuous situations and grotesque mix-ups, until he finally holds the sought-after play in his hands. But before the successful premiere, Faerber has to break the resistance of the artistic director and the "Office for the Arts".

World premiere
28.6.1953 Deutsches Theater Berlin (Director: Herwart Grosse)
