Elite I.1

Three impossible couples are at the centre of Elite I.1. They are only ‘couples’ in the loosest sense; actually, they are lone individuals who have ended up getting involved with each other. Angelika, the young, ambitious senior editor, uses her smile as a weapon against Thomas, a long-serving TV-producer who is clinging to his past achievements. Sybille (TV-presenter) and Hendrik (plastic surgeon), use and abuse each other and can no longer stand each other’s presence. A chance for real affection germinates between Isabell, whose career bores her, and Benjamin, the drop-out whose life has been thrown out of kilter – but it is only a delusion. Revealed to the spectator via inner monologues Elite I.1. shows “how strongly we have begun to see ourselves as a one-man/woman enterprise … and when we have had every kind of success only the escalation of success via destruction is left to happen.” (John von Düffel).
