"Who's afraid of the big black man? Who's afraid of me?" The echo of a child's game rings out eerily through stories and memories of three youngsters of the first German post-unification generation, and they stay with them on their quest: for a country that's supposed to be home, for an identity that their parents have lost, for somebody they can shoot at. Although they long since have arrived in the west, they have lost their bearings, for not only did their parents' thinking remain stuck in the East - it's the same for the teachers who, for decades, were used to represent a different system, who experience the newly won freedom more as a threat than an opportunity. A struggle ensues and escalates into the violent phantasies of a killing spree in a place where the frontlines are most obvious, where roles of victims and aggressors are clearly divided: in school. A piece "imbued with structural strength and decisive commitment to style ... an artificial verbal attack, where 'the youth' as a whole rises up in arms - first in paralyzed, humble defensiveness, followed by a biblical campaign of vengeance against the void of the world and the fear in one's heart.» (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung)
