In a small apartment in a rented house, Milan and Elm are playing at family. Milan as the father takes care of everything and Elm is pregnant and allowed to be moody. But Elm is still just a child himself, run away from the desperate idyll of his parents. The old man, Milan, picked Elm up at the train station and they have lived together ever since. Elm unwillingly accepts that Milan regularly measures the girth of his belly. The game has long been a reality for Milan. Similarly, the other characters in “Schlafengehn” cling to their life-saving fantasies of a perfect family. Elm is the only one who doesn’t know what to dream and where to belong, and so becomes all the more entangled in the desires of the others.
