Oresteia

Raoul Schrott has done a new translation of Euripedes’ seldom-performed dramas Electra and Orestes, expanding the choir passages and combining them into a «New» Oresteia that stands beside Aischylos’ classic plays. In a fascinating mixture of metered language, alternating rhymed vocal parts and modern expressions that shoot temporal arrows towards the present, the planned revenge of Electra and Orestes against their family after the Trojan War and the death of Agamemnon is explored in more detail and in a psychologically more multi-layered way than ever before.
