Schwejk, a talkative, duty-bound Czech soldier manages to reveal the absurdities of the World War I through his unshakable, curious nature. On his journey through military prisons, hospitals and army camps, everyone thinks he’s incurably stupid. But perhaps it’s his naiveté, misunderstood as «Stupidity», that allows him to grapple with the convulsions produced by the war and demonstrate more clearly the problems and deficits of a decaying society.

David Gieselmann’s fast-paced adaptation follows this likeable dunderhead on his journey and tells with great wit of the turbulent times in the early 20th century.

World premiere
06.11.2018 Theater Osnabrück (Director: Thomas Dannemann)
