The majority is out in force on the internet and on the street raging against the strains and impositions placed on them by democracy. The cries condemning foreigners, gays and vegetarians become deafening. The only way out for the rest is to escape to Mars, where a new attempt is underway to establish a free, peaceful and equal society. Seats on the rocket, however, are restricted to male/female couples to ensure species survivability. A high standard indeed: what could be more difficult than building a functioning relationship?

Having survived the tribulations of youth in Und jetzt: die Welt! oder Es sagt mir nichts, das sogenannte Draußen and the challenges of motherhood in Und dann kam Mirna, Sibylle Berg’s team of four women, now over 30, is sent on a seemingly impossible mission: to find love. The clock is ticking on their frantic search for a partnership that will also mean escape from a world that’s getting more visceral and crude, and where nationalist slogans seem ubiquitous. But how far should they lower their standards? Do they fulfil their own idealised criteria? Have they spent too long comfortably nestled in one niche or other ignoring the big picture? How reconcilable are personal happiness and political resistance? Nach uns das All depicts a generation whose men and women have lost the plot, and who find themselves with ever fewer morally decent alternatives within an indecent life.
