The system is trundling towards its own destruction. While some enjoy their privilege, others sink ever further into misery despite their ceaseless toil. Even private eye Gordon Pritchet gets the feeling that a revolution is nearing. While searching for a faithless partner, he stumbles across plans for a terrorist attack. What begins as a classic case of adultery leads Pritchet to the loneliness of a remote forest, where he finds the missing Henry attempting a return to a natural existence. But while Henry tries to insulate himself from civilisation, others are trying to destroy it and the upstanding detective will make an ideal puppet in their schemes. When Pritchet finds Henry’s hideaway, he has no idea that he’s walking into a trap.

Reworking film Noir elements, Eisenach’s script offers a canny mixture of Thoreau’s Walden and Raymond Chandler’s brand of hard-boiled crime stories while exploring the marked sense of unease that pervades society today. «By the end of the play, the morally upright detective is dead, the betrayed wife seems strangely pacified, the mistress has been removed of all her charms, the fickle husband is once again overwhelmed by the situation while the audience reflects on the current world situation. What an outcome, and what a show!» (die tageszeitung)
