There are many stage versions of Jules Verne’s classic novel. Phileas Fogg, a gentleman, bets his fortune that he can travel round the world in 80 days. But none of them are as subversive, witty and rooted in the present day as Peter Jordan’s text, which turns Verne’s book into an «Accelerated travel spectacle and, above all, a celebration of the spirit of theatricality. Seven actors switch roles and clichés at breakneck speed, satirizing national stereotypes and referencing pop culture at a pace that leaves the audience reeling. … After at least 1000 lightning-fast adventures, some bribery in the Balkans, an averted burning of a widow in India and even a brief sojourn on the Moon, Fogg and his companions are stranded in the American provinces … This is not a precise, careful adaption of a classic piece of literature from a period marked by a strong belief in progress. Jordan uses the original novel to show what theatre is capable of: everything.» (Rheinische Post)

«An evening for all ages crammed with vivid, and sometimes crass, ideas, spirited and unabashedly silly … accompanied by music that is catchy and vibrantly varied.» (Süddeutsche Zeitung)

World premiere
25.09.2016 Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus (Director: Leonhard Koppelmann & Peter Jordan)
