Gulliver, the cabin boy, is the shortest of them all. And so, everybody pushes him around: He can’t do anything right by the captain and the coxswain. During a violent storm, he ends up being the only one who gets washed ashore – and to his amazement, he finds himself being addressed as the “man mountain”. But indeed: The inhabitants of Liliput go up to his ankles, if at all. But that does not prevent them from feeling extremely important and notable, and to deliberate on the castaway’s fate. Shoot him immediately, suggests the Grand Admiral. After all, the stranger is dangerous and consumes too many vital resources. The Princess agrees: She would love to add Gulliver’s ring to her treasury. The clever Vaniliput is the only one to take Gulliver’s side, asking the others to consider how useful a giant like that might be in the war against the neighbouring islands. And indeed, Gulliver helps repel an attack on Liliput. But this makes the Grand Admiral jealous, and he schemes against Gulliver, so the newly minted hero almost finds himself facing a firing squad, again. Again, it is Vaniliput, who not only saves Gulliver’s life, but she also finds a way to end this war, once and for all.
