The unbearably spoilt Angela is conceited and narcissistic. She collects people like other people collect beetles. She grooms them, dresses them in the clothes she designs herself, holds them captive in her museum. In this surrealist farce Botho Strauss describes the friendship between Angela and her victim Melanie, who is an au pair in Angelas parents' house. The play begins with the fitting of a dress Angela made for Melanie. This is followed by further temptations and tests, to which Melanie, always in new clothes, is exposed like nightmares, and in which the au-pair gradually loses her own identity, as well as her love for Ulrich. Ulrich finally discovers his former lover in a showroom of Angela's father, a demonic doctor and genius taxidermist.
