A prefabricated apartment block somewhere in East Germany. Many buildings have been abandoned, and now the remaining area is supposed to be "decommissioned". But when the wrecking machines arrive, the remaining inhabitants band together in armed resistance. Barricades are built, nightly patrols are organized, cable connections get cut. No more mind-numbing media, no more patronizing, no more trade, but autonomous self-sufficiency and self-government. No one knows if the venture will be a success, but soon enough the protest of a few becomes a beacon for an entire country. Separatists shows people in insurrection, who consistently refuse to have their biographies erased and who will not resign to the lethargy which threatens to suffocate their lives. Realms of possibility open up, as the timeline of the piece constantly gets upended. While they prepare their revolt, the characters laconically refer to it in the past tense, and so it may be nothing but a mirage, already buried beneath the desert sand. And still, in the debris, that utopia keeps smoldering like embers beneath the ashes.
