In Bambiland, Jelinek already addressed issues of the war against Iraq. Babel goes on to question its premises and after-effects and circles around the links between violence, sexuality and religion in three monologues. It is a journey into the abysses of humankind and into its collective subconscious, which never ceases to erupt through to the surface. Babel fuses past and present into one, seamlessly changing positions and perspectives, amalgamating the language of the press with psychoanalytical and historic-philosophical texts and reflecting daily political events in ancient myths or religious tales. It is a multi-layered case history of our thoughts on and language of war.
